Action for Rural Women's Empowerment (ARUWE) is a grassroots non-profit that works with marginalized groups of people especially rural women and children in Uganda. Established in 2003 as a community based organization, ARUWE was later registered as an NGO in 2008 and has functional governance structures that include a board of five members and an executive committee. Initially, the organization started its operations in Nsangi sub-county, Wakiso district focusing on women livelihood programs. Presently, ARUWE operates in Wakiso, Kiboga, Kyankwanzi, Mpigi and Sembabule districts of central Uganda focusing on eliminating discriminative practices that inhibit womenÂ?s potential in the social, economic and civic sectors. ARUWE envisions a world in which women and children realize their full social, economic and civic potential and its mission is to empower women to initiate and manage their socio-economic development processes through strengthening community participation, advocacy and service delivery. ARUWEÂ?s work is centered around five thematic areas including women socio-economic strengthening, education and lifelong learning, sustainable healthy communities, climate change resilience and adaptation, and organizational growth and development.
