Purpose
The Department of Urban Mater Management and Sanitation deals with theoretical, experimental and applied problems in the field of wastewater technology, capacity building, resources economy and integrated sanitation.
Activities
The research activities of this department deal with theoretical, experimental and applied problems in the field of wastewater technology, capacity building, resources economy and integrated sanitation.
The most important research activities are currently:
Sanitation in extreme environments
Planning and operation of wastewater treatment facilities and systems (energy analysis, improvement of company organisations, optimisation of processes and cleaning performance)
Integrated sanitation systems based on material-flows and value added resource utilisation
Example: MoMo2 project in Darkhan, Mongolia - based on material flows and reutilisation of feces and urine in a biogas plant and agriculture respectively, in connection with the iPiT® toilet, which is an integrated personal innovative toilet.
