Using the project database
The project database contains information on sanitation-related projects implemented by many different organisations inside and outside the SuSanA network. These projects deal with research, implementation, advocacy, upscaling, capacity development and more.
Advanced filtering and search functions as well as a global map make it easier to find exactly what you are looking for. You can filter the projects by location, topic, technology, reuse type, funding source, grant recipient etc. using the black boxes displayed on the left side of the project database.
SuSanA partners can add their projects to the database directly through their partner profile page. If you need help with this, or need your login to be upgraded, please This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
Projects funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation
Many of the projects in the database were funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Since 2012, the Gates Foundation has encouraged its grantees to share the fruits of their projects through the SuSanA platform - by having their projects included in the project database and posted on the Discussion Forum. Many of the earlier projects were funded under the grant schemes Reinvent the Toilet Challenge (RTTC) and Grand Challenges Explorations (GCE). Read more about the grant conditions here.
The collaboration between grantees and SuSanA has been supported through a grant by the Gates Foundation to Stockholm Environment Institute from 2012 to 2018. Read more about the activities under this grant here.
Sharing of grant results on the SuSanA platform fits well with the Open Access Policy of the Gates Foundation for all grants that they make. A full, up-to-date list of all grants awarded by the Gates Foundation can be found here. All of their grants in the area of water, sanitation and hygiene to date are included in SuSanA's project database.
