Content - Summary

Ce rapport présente les résultats de l’enquête de Référence sur le Comportement lié à l’Eau, l’Hygiène et l’Assainissement familial au Burundi. Le but était de connaître les usages et comportements d’hygiène, et l’identification des facteurs psychologiques qui déterminent ces comportements, afin de proposer des techniques de changement de comportement. Des entretiens, observations et analyses sur la qualité de l’eau ont été également conduits dans les provinces de Bururi, Kirundo et Ruyigi.

Recommandations
• Des interventions pour tous les domaines analysés sont nécessaires pour améliorer la santé de la population rurale.
• Pour le lavage des mains, des interventions visant les émotions positives, la perception des coûts du savon, et un engagement publique sont recommandées.
• Pour lutter contre la défécation à l’air libre, des interventions ciblant les enfants, comme la promotion des pots ou le ramassage immédiat des excréments, sont recommandées.
• Pour augmenter le nettoyage des latrines, des interventions visant les émotions positives, des aide–mémoires, et une pratique guidée, sont recommandées.
• Pour augmenter le standard des latrines, probablement le coût des dalles de ciment est très élevé, et donc une subvention est nécessaire. Toutefois, des améliorations peuvent être introduites avec des moyennes plus simples, comme par exemple s’assurer que la dalle soit étanche.
• Face à la mauvaise qualité de l’eau sur les points d’eau, un traitement de l’eau au moment de l’utilisation est fortement recommandé. Des interventions visant des aspects utiles comme les émotions positives l’engagement seraient alors possibles.
