It seems people these days can’t stop talking about periods. From derision by presidential candidates, to taboo-breaking Instagrammers and marathoners, menstruation is no longer in the closet. The Society for Menstrual Cycle Research (SMCR) has been building the evidence base and articulating menstruation’s role in health and well-being for over 40 years. SMCR was the first multidisciplinary organization to actively promote research on reproductive health, and continues to be a leading source of guidance and expertise for those interested in the menstrual cycle.
SMCR is comprised of researchers in the social and health sciences, humanities scholars and educators, health care providers, policy makers, activists, artists and students, with interests in the role of the menstrual cycle in health and well-being from across the globe. Since 1979, SMCR has been bringing together those committed to ‘making menstruation matter,’ by hosting the world’s leading international conference on menstrual health, well-being, and justice every two years.
The 2019 SMCR biennial conference theme is “Traversing the Ridge: Connecting Menstrual Research and Advocacy,” and offers the opportunity for domestic and international research, activism, and social policies to mutually inform one another. Come to the Colorado College campus in beautiful Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA at the foot of the majestic Rocky Mountains, to be a part of the conversation as we plan for a brighter future for reproductive health and wellness!
