The Americas Regional Office of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), through its Zika Response Team, has adapted an interactive toolkit and teaching guides for Zika, Dengue and Chikungunya Prevention to the regional context by translating the materials to Spanish and adding a Seasonal Calendar for Vector Control to the toolkit. Additionally, the Zika Response Team will host a webinar with national societies in the region to socialize the toolkit.
In November 2016, the IFRC, the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre in the Netherlands and the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine in the UK produced two teaching guides and an interactive toolkit for Zika, Dengue and Chikungunya Prevention.
The school and a community teaching modules are aimed at preventing vector-borne diseases through community participation. Meanwhile, the interactive toolkit is meant to be help raise awareness on health, sanitation and vector control. These materials will help volunteers and practitioners foster dialogue with communities and ensure that prevention is seen as the primary way of combatting vector-borne diseases.
On the regional level, part of the adaption has included the addition of the Seasonal Calendar for Vector Control. The tool helps collect information on seasonal changes in a community over one year. Along with meteorological and climate variations, it highlights disasters and health, in this case specifically vector-borne diseases.
