The small water and wastewater treatment plants that play an important role in the management of water quality in local areas are increasingly the subject of global attention. Small treatment applications are usually favoured by rural and small communities to treat their domestic and industrial effluents. Resource oriented sanitation concepts are a way forwards a more ecological sound sanitation. The variety of technological options exists so that most social and economic conditions are met.
