In this joint-networking event, we will bring several partner organizations from India and also international networks (CEPT university, Indian Institute of Human Settlements, Susana, WSSCC, FSMA, IHE Delft and Swiss EAWAG)
to deliberate on approach and lessons for upscaling FSM capacity building. Through a panel discussion followed by group work, the partners will also engage in discussing the next generation challenges of capacity building for urban sanitation (with particular reference of FSM) achieving scale, standardization of content
and measuring impact.
In collaboration with the FINISH Mondaial team, NIUA will share the Normative Framework of Capacity Building for FSM. This framework has been developed from experience of delivering FSM capacity building at scale in India and includes a 7-step approach and two sets of 3 training modules each for the government and private sectors. A Training Modules Review Committee anchored by NIUA, as a platform of
several credible partner organizations, is pooling in knowledge resources to develop and regularly update standardized training modules and capacity building FSM content for urban India. The Normative Framework and the Training Modules have been found useful by several organization for promoting FSM in South Asia and Africa.
The objectives of the event are:
1. To focus on the importance of implementing urban sanitation innovations (with particular reference of faecal sludge management-FSM) with an inclusive and people-centered approach where all key stakeholders are involved with the Diamond model.
2. To identify the necessary capacity building of key stakeholders for a long-term solution of sustainable urban sanitation management based on the lessons derived from capacity building at scale for urban sanitation (with particular reference of faecal sludge management-FSM).
