Policy makers and planners across the country are increasingly realising that conventional sewerage is not the ideal solution to manage liquid waste in cities and towns. Faecal Sludge Management (FSM) and other decentralised options are increasingly being accepted to solve liquid waste management (LWM) issues. In this context, it becomes important to look at how various decentralized solutions (including FSM) can address a city’s LWM needs in an inclusive manner. In order that cities are able to do so, there is a need for professionals working with cities/towns across the country to be aware of the basic tenets of inclusive as well as multi- solution planning for addressing LWM.
“Consultant Capacity Development for Urban Sanitation Services or ConCaD” seeks to address this need for highly skilled professionals
In decentralised LWM by training consultants and early career professionals working in various sanitation activities for cities. It is planned to equip and build their capacities in planning and conceptualizing interventions for liquid waste that are more inclusive, equitable and effective cutting across the physical, topographical, social, cultural and economic divides of the city. This course was developed in collaboration with Sandec-Eawag, Switzerland with an exclusive focus on India and the FSM sector.
