The Lab will aim to learn from past and ongoing novel approaches to WASH service delivery for urban poor communities to inform future action for citywide resilience.

Urban poor communities – making up 24% of the urban population in India, 54.3% in Nepal, 55.1% in Bangladesh, to more than 60% in several African countries - perennially contend with insecurities in water and sanitation, housing, and livelihoods. The vulnerabilities of urban poor communities are not endemic only to the current Covid-19 pandemic but have manifested time and time again during epidemics, like the Ebola outbreak. Safe and sustainable systems for Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) are not only an indispensable safeguard against Covid-19, but an essential enabler of health, well-being, and productivity. Join us as we bring together governments, practitioners, researchers, and the civil society to deliberate on strategies for improving WASH for urban poor communities, and in turn, unlocking the urban resilience of cities across South Asia.

The Policy Labs series is organised by the four developmental organisations - Centre for Policy Research, WaterAid, Lumanti Support Group for Shelter, Nepal, and UNICEF. The details of the first Policy Lab in the series are as follows:
