On 27 Jan 2014 to 29 Jan 2014 the Joint ADB-WB Philippines Sanitation Workshop took place at the Asian Development Bank Headquarters in Manila.
The ADB and World Bank Philippines, in cooperation with the Government of the Philippines, organized this in-country workshop on sanitation financing which brought together decision makers, city planners, sanitation managers, wastewater professionals, and private sector financing representatives to formulate action plans for cities and municipalities. The workshop coincided with the formulation of a financing framework for sanitation.
Among the sanitation loan/grant facilities that were promoted during the workshop were the ADB-assisted Water District Development Sector Project (WDDSP), to be administered by the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA), and the WB-assisted National Sewerage and Septage Management Program (NSSMP) administered by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
ADB supported the workshop through a regional initiative on "Promoting Innovations in Wastewater Management in Asia and the Pacific" that aims to increase awareness and action to improve the existing urban sanitation conditions.
Objectives of the workshop aimed to:
- Formulate wastewater action plans for water districts and local government units;
- Formulate a sanitation financing framework, and;
- Promote ADB-assisted sanitation loan/grant facilities and the WB-assisted NSSMP administered by the Philippine government.
