Short Bio
My background is in environmental engineering with a focus on sanitation and wastewater management. My current position is as a lecturer and researcher at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), where I am part of the environmental engineering group. Our groups works actively to develop technologies for resource recovery from excreta and organic waste. I teach sustainability and systems thinking in courses related to waste & water management, nutrient recovery, and sanitation planning. My research focuses on resource recovery from sanitation systems, decision-making and planning for sustainable sanitation. I work with concepts of sustainability, life-cycle thinking, participation, acceptance, serious gaming and decision-support frameworks to better understand and shape planning processes. The goal is to improve resource recovery and sustainability of sanitation systems through adaptation of technology, policy and institutional arrangements.
I have a broad network within the sanitation community, both globally and locally. I am the SLU representative to "VA cluster Mälardalen" - a Swedish research and education cluster for research and learning in the water and wastewater sector. I partner with Swedish municipalities in my research and have regular student projects with municipal actors. Through my teaching and research I can thus bridge technology innovations with practice.
Motivation/Commitment to the GSC
I have been involved in SuSanA since 2008. I have been active in the cities working group and attended numerous SuSanA meetings over the years. I think that SuSanA is a fantastic network that has contributed significant knowledge and growth in the field of sanitation. I see that SuSanA can have a central role to play in the continued development of the sanitation sector – continuing of course to be a knowledge hub, but also a think-tank at the cutting edge of developing and driving sustainable solutions for sanitation. I would like to be part of making sure this happens.
Is there anything else you would like to say to the SuSanA community?
It would be an honour to continue collaboration with this great community and work together to assure that the work of SuSanA continues and can provide support and inspiration for future generations of sanitation enthusiasts.
