Short Bio
I currently work as the MENA Programme Officer for Stockholm International Water Institute-WASH Department, focusing on WASH sector governance and enabling environment. I support MENA projects by providing technical assistance in water and sanitation governance performances and WASH system strengthening.
I have a master’s degree in water and environmental engineering from Jordan University of Science and Technology with around 12 years of experience in water and sanitation, including several regional/MENA projects.
I have worked for more than nine years in the development field with different capacities and organizations, focusing on the water and sanitation sectors’ governance, integrity, and capacity-building needs. Before joining SIWI, I worked as a regional governance specialist for BORDA WesCA regional office in Amman. I was responsible for managing sanitation projects and supporting the organization in regional networking and fundraising. I also have experience and networking capacities in the MENA region as I co-coordinated the Sustainable Sanitation Alliance-SuSanA WANA Chapter (2018 - 2021) and worked on another two regional projects (2014 - 2017).
Motivation/Commitment to the GSC
My current position in SIWI (working with 14 countries in the MENA region) and previous experience in other organizations and regional projects allow me to better understand the WASH sector’s challenges, gaps, and needs in the region.
My previous experience with the SuSanA WANA chapter and our current work in SIWI catapulted me into learning other aspects of water and sanitation, such as WASH governance and enabling environment, climate change risks, and resilience. With this well-rounded perspective of technical knowledge and networking and communication capacities, I believe I am a good candidate for this position. I have the necessary managerial & leadership skills and experience to meet your expectations while keeping your core values at the forefront of everything I do.
Is there anything else you would like to say to the SuSanA community?
At SIWI, we are currently mapping the potential of opening a regional office for MENA region. This will support communication with the existing local and regional institutions and funding agencies.
