The German Toilet Organization (GTO), in collaboration with the ecosan program of the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ), has developed a training program for German NGOs. The GTO has been inundated with requests from right across the NGO spectrum asking for assistance in understanding the field of sanitation, and in response GIZ and GTO have started a series of training sessions in late 2010.
After more than 5 basic sanitation trainings the German Toilet Organization (GTO) has developed a new advanced training course to deepen the knowledge of the participants on sustainable sanitation in the context of development cooperation. The first advanced training took place from 3 to 4 March 2012 in Berlin in the Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) and was a big success. The training topics ranged from detailed information on sustainable sanitation technologies and -systems to non-technical accompanying measures and financing. Various knowledge tools/toolboxes were introduced and project examples were discussed with regard to “best practices” and “lessons learnt”.
